Adult Education
We at Hamblen believe that growing as a disciple
is a lifelong process. Our Adult Education classes and small groups
will challenge you to:
- Grow in your faith, starting wherever you are
on your journey with God
- Learn more about what we as Christians believe,
as well as what makes us unique as Presbyterians
- Build positive
relationships and develop skills for the life of faith
- Think
deeply about and apply God's Word to your daily life
We offer a variety of classes on Sunday mornings
and throughout the week.
Learn more about specific class offerings by visiting one of the Adult Education blogs. Audiorecordings of past classes and forums can be downloaded at the HPPC audio archive. The "Homosexuality and the Bible" forum from 9/26/11 is now posted!.
On-going small group opportunities also abound
for people who desire to grow in faith by connecting with a smaller
community. Contact Pastor
Betsey if you are interested in joining or starting a small
group.
Children's Ministries
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me,
and do not hinder
them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Children were important to Jesus and our children are a priority at
Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church.
We
provide opportunities for our children to meet Christ through our
nursery, Sunday School classes, summer Vacation Bible School, mid-week
programs, special classes, Kid’s Zone and active participation in our
worship services.
Parents and their children are encouraged to
attend Sunday School classes during the 9:00 a.m. hour and then
participate in the 10:30 a.m. worship service as a family. Children of
all ages are welcome into our worship services. Where else are they
going to learn to worship God unless they worship with us?
Contact
Joe Bruce, Director of Children’s Ministries, for your Children’s
Ministry questions or if you would like to volunteer. You can contact
Joe in the church office at 448-2909 or at joe@hamblenpres.org.

Lay Ministries
As Presbyterians, we believe
- God has gifted us to serve,
- God has led us to a community of faith where
our gifts can be identified, nurtured and used
- That our gifts are needed to do God’s work in
God’s world.
Each
of us has a unique combination of God-given gifts (talents, interests,
personalities, life experiences and resources) that guides us to where
and how our Spiritual gifts are needed in our community of faith to be
Christ’s hands and feet here in Spokane and around the world.
Lay
Ministries helps people discover, develop and use their gifts to be the
salt and light wherever they are – in our congregation, communities,
workplaces and families.
Discover your gifts through
- Classes
such as “Your Gifts and You”, “Mission Possible” (for 5th graders
&
their parents) as well as the New Members and Senior High Confirmation
classes
- Testing the waters by getting involved and
helping with one of the many opportunities for service
- Being open to where God is opening doors for
you.
Develop your gifts through participation in
- The many adult learning opportunities and small
groups available
- Training and orientation offered for the
ministries you are drawn toward
- Leadership retreats
Use your gifts in your everyday life.
For
more information about how you can find your place or to help others
find their place in the Body of Christ here at Hamblen contact Susan Preuninger,
Director of Lay Ministries.
Music
Ministries
In all our music, our focus is to glorify God and
enhance the
worship experience through inspiring expression of praise. We
serve through our music and in fellowship with one another.
Together we learn, grow, serve, praise and share the message of God’s
redeeming love.
The Chancel Choir is the primary vocal music
ensemble for worship. They sing approximately 40 Sundays
during
the program year and occasionally for special services.
Hallel
is a group of vocalists and instrumentalists who lead contemporary
praise songs during worship services. This group leads once a
month year-round.
The Chimes Choir is an intergenerational group
(6th grade & up) playing hand chimes. They play
periodically
for worship services and occasionally for special services.
The
Instrumental Praise Ensemble is an intergenerational group of wind,
string and percussion instruments. They provide special music
on
the Sunday before Christmas and for Easter, as well as on other special
occasions.
Music in Children’s Education provides the ministry
of teaching children the expression of praise through music.
There are many opportunities available as song leader, assisting
leaders, accompanists, instrumentalists and support staff.
Our
children’s education ministries include FISH (grades 1-3), KICK (grades
4-6), Sunday School Music and Vacation Bible School.
There is a place in the Hamblen Park Presbyterian music program for
anyone who wishes to share in this ministry.
Young
Adult Ministries
All twenty-somethings—married or single—gather
twice a month: once for a Bible Study and once for fellowship. New
people are always welcome. For more information about the group or to
receive regular email updates about what the group is doing, contact Pastor Betsey.
Youth Ministries
Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church places a high
priority on the Christian education of our youth in junior high and
high school. Through our youth program, we provide opportunities to
explore and respond to God's love surrounded by peers, and we equip our
youth to show God's love to the world.
Hamblen Park's youth program is directed by Katie Stark with assistance
from several adult leaders. Learn more about current and upcoming Youth Ministries opportunities.
